Do people grow out of fishing?
Mike N asked:
I used to love fishing , but now I am into other outdoor sports such as mountain biking, rock climbing, and etc. It seems to me I have lost interest in fishing.
I catch alot most of the time.
I dont mean to offend older people. But that is how I percieve it in my life.

most get to lazy and impatient.
People change all the time… People can ‘grow out of’ anything, which includes fishing…
It’s possible
Perhaps it depends on how much fish you get per hour
well everone that i know who loves fishing love fishing and have always fish. but if u’ve found something you love more than fishing that i guess so
People can grow out of anything or their lives change and they don’t have as much time for it as they used to.
some people tend to have different interests at different times. You’ll probably fish again in the future…take your own kids fishing etc…..
u probably have not lost the total connection of fishing, u have just discovered new things to do that may seem a lot more exciting and fun.
It probably just doesn’t interest you as much as it used to. I tend to get frustrated when I go to a spot that i have always caught fish at befor and sit for hours and not have a bite.
No you don’t. Just because other things interest you now when you retire fishing will come back to you.
I did fish till when I was 17 the horsefly’s were bothering me and well I wasn’t a tomboy any more.
I plan on fishing again.
No problem, that leaves more for me.. And you can have all of my mountain climbing, bike riding and rock climbing..
I bet that when you get older the fishing will have more appeal than the others so, save it for later when you aren’t able to do the others. My Grand Mother used to say,”Son, do everything you want to while you are young enough to enjoy it.” She was pretty smart, don’t you think..
Be safe on the mountains and rocks…
maybe you just lost the patience for it, or maybe you just dont enjoy it as much as other things. for example i used to hate applesause, now i love it! as long as it isn’t tooo sour of course. preferences change throught our lifetimes, maybe you’ll catch yourself fishing in the future, maybe it’ll become your favorite sport again. But definitely, people do not grow out of fishing, there’re a whole bunch of people who have been fishing for their whole lifetimes and maybe others have just started. it just preferences i tell ya, preferences, for example, my dog PREFERS to lick our couch in the living room…..i dont know how to get him too stop lol, when i catch him licking the couch and say “stop licking the couch” he’ll stop, but he’ll most likely lick it again some other time. (n _ n)
hope i helped.
Yeah sometimes they do. I did! I grew up in a family that was real outdoorsy. I loved the woods/fishing/camping hiking growing up. When I went to summer camp (at 16) I took a fishing pole / tackle box with me, lol. I was dressed in American Eagle everything and very popular, yet I was totally into fishing (weird!!) the guys loved me, the girls thought I was crazy
But yeah, I’m 25 and now I’m not a big fan of the ‘great out-doors’. I’d rather be in a nice hotel ordering fish from the room service, rather then putting a hook thru my worm, waiting 3 hours and catching it myself. =)
People just change through the years, you get new interests ALL the time. It’s just part of what makes like fun and interesting!
Bite your tongue! I have been fishing since I was 3 (now 45)and I love it. Unfortunately, I do not have as much time to fish as I would like, but God willing, I will have again.
You will be back! Trust me, I outgrew fishing at different times in my life, but I always came back to it. Fishing will always take you back!
Fishing is something you can’t out grow. It’s part of a persons DNA..There’s at least one chromosome that says you must fish. : ) You can get bored of fishing and pursue other activities but in the end, you’ll be back with a bigger and better rod and reel and all the goodies that come with it. At best, you will have incorporated all the other activities you tried during the hiatus to make fishing more fun for you. We all need a break, it’s perfectly understandable, not one here can deny that they haven’t taken a break from fishing. I did, and I lasted a full 12 minutes once. I broke down and ended up catching all the fish out of my fish tank with a staple and sewing thread. ( I had surgery and was bored at the time) LOL.
It’s the nature of the sport, it’s worse than crack. LOL
I think a lot of people grow in & out & in & out of fishing as time goes by. The last real time I spent with my dad before he died of a heart attack was a great weekend at Texoma catching striped bass. You never give up the memories. I fished like a maniac for up until about 35. Then I was trying to raise a family and work 2 jobs and fishing became a lower priority. Now it is starting to come back up on my priority list. My sons are adults, we live comfortably, and the time to go out and relax is more important that sitting around. I might not fish in the extreme weather conditions I used to when I was younger. But then again I have learned a few things in the intervening years too. And I think going fishing reminds me of my dad and grandfather too. They taught me to fish, like I taught my sons. Maybe I’ll call my boys up and we will get in a trip together this spring.
People grow as a result of fishing. It’s a lot like golf in a sense. You never master it and can always learn and improve.
I am an old fisherman and take no offense at your question or comment. Please do the same in return.
I dont think you grow out of fishing, it all depends on what fishing means to you. My dad loved fishing, I mean from when I was 2-3 years old he had me a little fishing jacket, a pole, when my first son was born, it was the same with him. He enjoyed everything about fishing, the outdoors, the smells. I think you go thru times when other sports interest you more, but if you were a true fisherman, you will go back, and love it again
Na ol cuz once you are hooked on fishing you aint gettin that hook out, OR maybe that is just me
you haven’t grown out of it you have just lost interest in the sport, try a change, take up salt water, try fly fishing, aim for a different species try different lakes.
Some outgrow fishing, and return to it later on in life. Once someone retires and starts to collect social security, most chose either golfing or fishing.
i guess it can happen like i use to play paintball hardcore but my love for fishing and hunting took over so i dont play that much but as long as your having fun keep doin what makes you happy
here’s the deal - sounds like you are relatively young - you are trying out new things that are new and exciting to you - that’s how it should be- but as you get older you will find that young mans sports and interest is getting old to you and you will get back into fishing and you’ll do that until you can’t do it any more- and that’s how it should be!
