Will my camera (Nikon D80) get ruined if I use it int he rain?

enriquez_3 asked:

I’m a big sports fan and I want to be able to take the camera to outdoor sporting events. If it will get ruined, what type of protective equipment could I buy for it and where can I buy it?

Thanks.

Umbrellas are good, as are plastic bags. Unless your camera gets soaked, it will probably be OK. Just remember to wipe off the lens periodically so you won’t get blotches on your pictures.

Yes it will, don’t use it in the rain. I know SONY has underwater gear (not just for underwater…) for cameras, hmm….don’t know about Nikon.Below are some links, see what it looks like, this way you know what you are looking for. Also, check out NIKON’s website, may be they have something helpful.

I shoot sports all the time and sometimes in the rain. I have a special plastic cover that has a lens port in it that will cover not only the camera but my head as well. I look goofy using it, but it keeps my camera and lens dry. Mine is more than a few years old (I started using it with my Nikon F4), but I am sure you can find something similar.

I really hard rains, I have a painting tarp I use that I picked up at one of the home centers for under $10. I wrap up in it and shoot away.
